Hello, My name is Ali. Welcome to my creative venture: suede + co.
suede + co. is a boutique creative agency dedicated to helping musicians bring their vision to life. What started as a collaboration between me (suede) and my talented filmmaker friends (the “co.”) has grown into a network of passionate creatives crafting bold, innovative visuals. From album release strategies and social media campaigns to music videos and documentaries, we work with artists to expand their brand identity, connect with their fanbase, and stay true to the heart of their music. At suede + co., we believe every song deserves visuals that are as powerful and authentic as the music itself.
A little backstory on me:
In 2016 I graduated from Watkins College of Art, Design & Film with a BFA in Film, and a concentration in editing. I studied under Bob Gordon, who has edited such films as Blue Lagoon, The Return of the Living Dead, and Toy Story. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working on projects with artists and associations such as Shania Twain, davvn, Tyler Childers, Alaina Cross, Maddie & Tae, The Black Keys, Country Music Association, and more.
In the wild and wonderful year of 2020, I finished editing and writing the story for a feature length documentary - Nobody Famous. That documentary was an official selection of the Nashville Film Festival and a winner for Best Documentary at The New Jersey Film Festival and Best Music Documentary at the Seattle Film Festival. Simultaneously, I began creative directing visuals for my independent artist friends. This kind of media was something I was hesitant to make a part of my portfolio, but found that there is a great need for custom-produced visuals assets for their single and EP releases. I found new creative outlet in being able to concept, design, direct, shoot, and edit uniform visuals that help tell a song or a project’s story.
It took me awhile to feel comfortable leaning into my multi-hyphenate creative persona,
though, once I did, I realized that I was leaving fun and creative opportunities on the table. The majority of my work has been video editing (I also have a background in music, which I feel contributes to my editing style); however, I’ve dipped my toes in just about every facet of filmmaking or artist branding in the past 12 years, which has shown me all the different ways to produce engaging visuals and collaborate with an artist. It’s important to make something they feel embodies their message and brand, as well as engages their fanbase, and create marketing and brand partnership opportunities.
What I bring to the table…
is an ability to look at a project from a client's perspective and take in the ideas they want to put into motion - all while holding the work created to the industry standards of "what looks cool," and pulling something unexpected, different, and elevated out of the base idea. This might be obvious, but it’s important for me to note that whole-hearted collaboration, communication, and efficiency is something I and my collaborators strive for. Let’s get to work!
